Newspaper Articles
In Library
The Humber Library carries a collection of local and national newspapers comprised of:
- Toronto Sun (last 2 months)
- Toronto Star (last 2 months)
- Globe and Mail (last 4 to 5 months – no Sunday editions)
- National Post(last 2 months)
Newspapers are located on the second floor in the North-East corner of the library near the periodical collection. Humber also has the Globe and Mail available on CD-Rom – ask at the 3rd floor reference desk for more information.
Newspaper Databases
Access to the following databases requires login to the Guelph-Humber Library and Learning Commons site:
- Canadian Newsstand Major Dailies
- [Proquest] Coverage: 1985 - present, but varies with each publication (some papers exclude the last 2 days). Contains full text coverage of Canada's 17 major daily newspapers, including the Globe and Mail, National Post, and Toronto Star. Check database for complete list of publications.
- CBCA [Canadian Business and Current Affairs]
- [Proquest] Coverage: 1982 to 1992 index only. Full text from 1993 to present. Updated monthly.
- LexisNexis Academic
- Legal, news and business information service which contains several thousand full text publications. Available through humber.
- CPI.Q
- [Gale] Canadian Periodical Index. Coverage: varies by publication. Full text from over 240 journals and wide range of journals and magazines including the Globe and Mail and the National Post.
- Alt-PressWatch
- [Proquest] Coverage: varies with each publication. A full text database of the newspapers, magazines and journals of the alternative and independent press. Check database for complete list of publications.

Online Newspapers
The following newspapers provide free online access to national and local news coverage:
- Globe and Mail
- Coverage: current edition + last 7 days. To access globeandmail.com, you are required to register. Registration is free and will give you access to globeandmail.com news, stocks, funds, and other tools.
- National Post
- Coverage: A selection of stories from today's newspaper. Headline and lead paragraph from every story in the current edition and one week archive.
- Toronto Star
- Coverage: Online content for the past 7 days. Registration is free and is required for access to articles. The Toronto Star uses only a portion of its daily editorial content for online purposes. The articles that are published online are archived for 14 days.

Historical Newspaper Databases
Canada
- Globe and Mail, Canada's Heritage from 1844
- Coverage: 1844 - excluding current 4 years. Searchable full-text coverage includes major events in Canadian history, plus thousands of images, advertisements, classifieds, political cartoons and birth and death notices from issues of the Globe and Mail. Original records from microfilm print masters were scanned to create high quality digital images of the original page format.
U.S.
- 19th Century Masterfile
- Coverage: mainly 19th Century with some coverage back to 1786 and up to 1922. Nineteenth and early twentieth century periodicals and newspapers. Newspaper indices include New York Times Index, New York Daily Tribune Index, Palmers Index to the Times, and Index to the Oregon Spectator.
- New York Times Historical
- Coverage: 1851 - excluding current 3 years. Offers full-text and full-image articles from the New York Times. Original records were scanned from microfilm into digital files. Researchers can use the database to find news, editorials, letters to the editor, obituaries, and birth and marriage announcements, historical photos, stock photos, and advertisements.
